Alan Bridgett has played a tremendous part in Monarchs' history, with a total of 17 years so far as team manager and track preparation supremo. Of course 'Doc' was also a rider for Monarchs, at the end of a solid career. He was in the 1977 team at the opening of Powderhall and rode for three seasons before taking on the managerial role. This atmospheric shot was taken at Berwick in 1978 on a weekend when two matches between the sides suffered from track preparation designed to put the opposition off (slick at Powderhall, deep at Berwick). Alongside Alan at the gate is Jack Millen who was transferred from Edinburgh to Berwick in 1978 but who was tragically killed in a car crash that year.
