BRITAIN v OVERSEAS TEST MATCH

Test Matches were always popular with supporters at Old Meadowbank, and the number of Australian and New Zealand riders based in Scotland made the tracks up here ideal venues for the Britain v Overseas series. Old Meadowbank saw its first match in this series on 13th July 1950, and it was hotly contested. Monarchs' Don Cuppleditch came in to partner Alan Hunt in the final heat, scoring a 5-1 over Bob Leverenz and Merv Harding which gave G.B. a 55-53 win. The picture shows Dick Campbell (outside) leading with his partner Ken Le Breton backing him up. We're not so sure about the British rider - but it could be Derek Close, then of Newcastle.
