PETER CARR has signed on for two years to carry him through to 2003, his 25th season in Speedway.
In spite of a serious injury to his left knee ligaments he performed with as much distinction as ever
during 2001. For the first three months he was clearly the top performer in the PL,
averaging nearly 11 home and away. His injury occurred on 29th June and he made his return four weeks
later. Thereafter he had a few bad meetings if conditions were wet or bumpy, but was still
generally formidable. Wasn't fit to defend the Scottish Open or to contest the PLRC. Date of birth 22/1/63, Preston 2001 POINTS AVERAGE 10.19

FREDE SCHOTT was one of the best newcomers ever to come to Edinburgh
when he arrived as a 19 year old in 1990. He proved to be the best thing about that
very poor season, and maintained good progress in 1991. He was transferred
to Belle Vue in 1992 for £11,000 and thereafter had several good years
with the Aces. That seemed likely to be the end of his UK career, although
he has always had many friends in Edinburgh. It came as a big surprise when he
was announced as Monarchs' no. 2 for the 2002 season. Date of birth 28/12/70, Kolding, Denmark POINTS AVERAGE 11.00 (assessed)

DALLE ANDERSSON has had his wish granted - to return to ride for Edinburgh at Armadale.
Throughout his debut (part) season and also the winter he has made it clear that this was what he
wanted. Monarchs will be buying his contract from Coventry. He joined Monarchs on loan in
May 2001 and made an excellent start, riding at reserve on an average based on a low
Elite League figure from 2000. Broke his ankle just before the southern tour and missed
eight weeks. Returned as a heat leader but showed good if inconsistent form for the rest
of the season. Date of birth 27/9/74, Stockholm POINTS AVERAGE 7.53

BEN SHIELDS returns for his second season in a second string berth,
having proved his worth in a difficult debut year 2001. He had
been signed on a 7-point average, but lacked the experience to maintain such
a figure. After a spell in the second half he returned and showed
considerable ability, especially on small tracks. Expected to progress this season. Date of birth 10/12/81, Mulbring, Australia POINTS AVERAGE 4.63

CHRISTIAN HENRY will ride in his third year as a Monarch in 2002. He has
established himself as one of the most popular team members, with a
remarkable ability to pass round the outside line at
Armadale, something he does regularly. Hasn't always had the best of machinery,
but only the most experienced riders can stop him sweeping past round
the boards. Has had another quiet down under season. Date of birth 20/2/81, Gold Coast, Australia POINTS AVERAGE 5.21

THEO PIJPER is a surprise signing at reserve, having had limited speedway
experience. His only UK meeting prior to 2002 was the Under-21 qualifier at
Peterborough last season, in which he scored an impressive 9. Also went very
close to winning the annual Golden Helmet meeting in his home
country. A good competitor on grass and long tracks. Date of birth 11/2/80 POINTS AVERAGE 3.0 (assessed)

RORY SCHLEIN came to the UK from Australia last season to sample British Speedway, and
finished up racing as many meetings as anyone in the country! He rode for Sheffield
in the Conference League with considerable success (reaching the Conference
Riders' Final) and he also guested numerous times in Premier
League matches. Probably attracted as much publicity as anyone at his level
ever has. Date of birth 1/9/84, Darwin POINTS AVERAGE 3.00 (assessed)

AIDAN COLLINS was riding in Conference League with Buxton when Edinburgh snapped him up during
one of their many spells of injury problems. He had previously had two seasons with Glasgow.
Making his debut at Somerset in July, he immediately displayed improved form home and away
and settled in to became a valuable man at reserve. Date of birth 21/4/82, Stockport POINTS AVERAGE 3.90

DAVID MELDRUM had only ridden for Berwick at Premier League level prior to 2002, but the Bandits
left him out this season as they went for a new-look side. A brief spell at Somerset wasn't a
huge success so David was more than happy when Edinburgh decided to bring him into their side.
He has ridden all over the World in Speedway and ice racing events. Date of birth 6/10/77, Berwick-Upon-Tweed POINTS AVERAGE 6.29

MAGNUS KARLSSON joined the Monarchs at the beginning of August to replace Dalle Andersson, who
was injured in June and decided to retire, at least from UK Speedway. Magnus is the younger
brother of Mikael and Peter, and had been scoring well for Valsarna in Sweden. He joined Monarchs just in
time to allow him to race in 12 meetings and so gain a true average for 2003. Date of birth 28/12/1980, Gullspang POINTS AVERAGE 9.00
